How good are Robin Goodfellow’s tips?
Like other national newspaper tipsters, Robin Goodfellow’s selections are tracked publicly. The Racing Post’s Press Challenge stakes a theoretical £1 at starting price on every newspaper selection and ranks tipsters on profit or loss across the year, and several naps tables track each paper’s daily nap.
Those tables are the best way to judge current form. Newspaper tipsters typically find around one winner in every four selections, so runs of losers are normal, and a good Cheltenham can be followed by a quiet spell, or the other way round.
Getting the most from newspaper tips at Cheltenham
A newspaper tipster has to pick something in almost every race, including 20-plus runner handicaps where nobody has a strong view. The most useful selections are usually the nap and the picks backed by the clearest reasoning.
Comparing views also helps. If Robin Goodfellow, Rob Wright and Templegate all land on the same horse, that agreement is worth noting, though a consensus pick will rarely be a big price.
