A strong 21 horse field gives the 2024 edition of the Plate Handicap a goodlook, and there’s plenty for punters to be interested in here. Won by 20/1 shot Seddon last year, clearly there’s a chance of an upset in what will be a tightly fought race.

Topping the betting at 10/3 is Credibly, convincing winner of an Exeter novice race recently. That was a three-horse event, and while Jonjo O’Neill’s charge has credentials there are others that appeal more to us.
Strong recent form gives Theatre Man, trained by Richard Bandy, a good chance and with Harry Cobden in the saddle he will be well ridden. The same applies to the Elliot yard’s Saint Felicien, who is attracting money from the off.
Henry de Bromhead has three runners in this race – Watch House Cross, Life In The Park, and Arctic Bresil, and it’s eye-catching to see Rachael Blackmore choose the latter. Stepping up in trip, 12/1 could be a good price for an interesting horse.
If we had to put our money on one horse in the Plate Handicap it would be Shakem Up’arry, a good third in this last year and looking assured as winner of a course and distance handicap on New Year’s day.
There’s plenty to choose from, and we advise looking for bookies offering extended places for each way.
