Gordon Elliot’s Delta Work won this in 2003 and returns to defend the title and looks to be ready. He faces strong opposition through a 12 strong field prepped for this lengthy trial.
Primary among the challengers is Minella Indo, Henry de Bromhead’s Cheltenham-loving horse in the hands of Rachael Blackmore. 2/1 favourite as this is written, and we think that’s a fair price for a runner that simply cannot be dismissed.
In addition to Delta Work the Elliot stable also saddles Coko Beach, a 3/1 shot, and Galvin at a slightly longer price. This gives the stable a strong hand in dictating the running of the race which will be all-important throughout.
Foxy Jacks is an interesting runner for M.F. Morris and carries a course and distance victory among his form, and at 12/1 should be of interest but with some caution after a break. At 40/1 Peter Bowen’s Franky Du Berlais is worth an each way shot but cannot be relied on.
The rest are simply filling out the field. This really should be between Delta Work and Minella Indo, and our money would be on the latter in this case.
