County Hurdle Tips

A superb race last year saw Faivoir hold a charging Pied Piper in the County Hurdle and this year’s revival looks to be an exciting field.

The first of Friday’s big fields, the County Hurdle sees 23 runners take to the post for what will be a fascinating competition. This is a race that often throws up a big price winner- Dan Skelton’s Faivoir won last year’s edition at 33/1 and runs again at 12/1 off the same mark – and there are many interesting choices among the entries.

Gordon Elliot saddles five entries with the most likely performers being Pied Piper who was beaten narrowly last year, and the current favourite, King of Kingsfield. Each offers good form of late and stand a good chance.

Willie Mullins’ followers have five to choose from, with the stable’s best shot perhaps being Paul Townend’s choice Absurde. We’re not sure today’s ground will be in favour but it’s not a horse – or yard – to dismiss lightly.

Emmet Mullins offers up one of the most interesting of all the runners in So Scottish. There’s a lot of interest in this runner yet prices are drifting as we write. Worth keeping an eye on in the market.

As many bookies will be offering extra places we want to point out a 40/1 runner that might be worth an effort. Trained by Sheena West, Mr Freedom is a consistent ride with good recent form and should be there for a place at the end.
