Hunters Chase Tips

Often called the ‘Amateurs Gold Cup’ the Hunters Chase is run over the same course and distance as the Gold Cup and is for amateur riders only. For this reason it is sometimes treated with caution by punters, yet the field this year offers plenty of interest.

Other races of interest on Day 4 Friday:

2 runners line up for the Hunters Chase, a 3-mile 2-furlong test of stamina that often springs a surprise. Last year’s edition was a prime example with 66/1 shot Premier Magic scoring convincngly over Its On The Line, itself at 28/1. Third went to Shantou Flyer at 50/1.

All three are entered once again for the 2024 revival, and Its On The Line heads the betting at 2/1 for Emmet Mullins. Bradley Gibbs’ Premier Magic is at 11/2 and both of these horses have very decent recent form and will surely be in the mix.

Ferns Lock and Billaway have both been seen off by the favourite although cannot be dismissed outright, while Gordon Elliot’s Samcro has been running in points and racked up 5 out of 6, and needs consideration. At 11/1, he surely has a place chance.

Of the rest we like the look of Time Leader. Trained by Miss Hannah Roach, this is a good horse with success in hunters including a hat trick in the last three outings. A sure chance of a place at 20/1.

These races are a very heavy test for the horse and rider, and it is far from certain that one of the main protagonists will cross the line ahead so have a careful look at the form.
